Common Admission Test is the entrance exam to get admission in the prestigious Indian Institute of Management. Each year, the exam is arranged by one of the IIMs, and CAT 2019 is being overseen by IIM Kozhikode. CAT is a computerised exam that is conducted in English. Candidates have to face 100 questions. These questions are divided into 3 sections – Verbal & Reading Comprehension, Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning, and Quantitative Ability. This years CAT exam will be held on the 24th of November across 156 cities. There will be multiple CAT exam centres in these cities. The results will be declared on the 7th of January, 2020.

This is a tough exam that tests your mental abilities to the maximum. But this exam is not everyone. There are certain criteria that you have to fit to be able to sit for the exam. Eligibility Criteria for CAT 2019 and Other Related Information

The CAT exam is designed to test your intelligence quotient. This is not an exam where you have to memorize answers. It tests your ability to think, analyse and take decisions.

This years CAT exam is going to see nearly 2.5 lakh students taking the exam. However, there must have been many more that applied and got rejected. Therefore, check out the information below so you dont miss out on qualifying.

1. Graduation

You should have at least a bachelors graduate degree with 50% or more as your aggregate percentage. This percentage is calculated by averaging the percentage of all three years of your graduation course. Students belonging to the reserved category need to have at least 45% or more as their graduation percentage.

Final Year Students – Final year students, who have appeared for their exams, but are still awaiting their results, can also be eligible to give the CAT exam on a provisional basis. For them to qualify, they will have to provide a certificate from their college or university, approved and signed by the registrar or the principal stating that the student is qualified to graduate. Only then can final year students appear for CAT.

 

2. Recognised University

Your graduation degree should be from a government recognised university. There are different criteria for a university to be recognised like:-

  • The university has to have been created by the state or central legislature.
  • Created and established through an Act in Parliament.
  • Created under the UGC Act of 1956.
  • Certified by the Government of India by the HRD Ministry

The university from which you qualify should meet any of the above criteria.

3. Certification

Reserved category students or Person with Disability (PwD) category students need to have proper certification when they apply for CAT. Reserved category students have to specify which category they belong to like Schedules Caste (SC), Schedule Tribe (ST), and Other Backward Categories (OBC).

 

4. Professionals

Professionals who have the following professional degrees can also appear for CAT. They also need to have at least 45% or more as their final aggregate percentage. Candidates of the following professional degrees can appear:-

  • Chartered Accountant (CA)
  • Company Secretary (CS)
  • Institute of Cost & Works Accountant (ICWA)

These professional degrees are considered to be some of the most difficult educational degrees. Many of them work in prestigious companies, firms, or have their own practises.

 

5. Age Restriction

Owing to many professionals taking the CAT exam, there is no age restriction imposed. There are even some working professionals who take the CAT exam just to keep themselves sharp and look for ways to improve.
