Even before all the big amusement parks in India were even thought of, Appu Ghar existed in the Pimpri-Chinchwad area. It was developed as an eco-friendly place where children and parents can have a great time. Appu Ghar is at the foothill of Shri Durga Devi Temple, amidst lush greenery.

The work for the park began in 1989, and it was completed in 1992. Later on, a water park section was also added to the park. Appu Ghar is an excellent place for family outings, school picnics, and even corporate retreats. It is one of the best places to see in Pimpri-Chinchwad.

 

2. Durga Tekdi

Right next Appu Ghar is the beautiful Durga Tekdi. It is one of the greenest places in the region with more 200,000 trees being planted and maintained by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Corporation.

Though slightly crowded on weekends, Durga Tekdi is an ideal place for a picnic, or simply a hangout where you can relax and breathe in the fresh air. Just a few kilometres ahead of Pimpri-Chinchwad is the village of Malauli. It is right before Lonavala. Close to the village is another village, Bhaja, and atop the hill near the village, 400 feet to be exact, are the legendary Bhaja Caves. So, whats special about this place? For starters, it was built in the 2nd Century B.C.

The Bhaja Caves have been carved into the rock formation. They are Buddhist Caves, and have multiple Stupas in them. This is a beautiful place that is on the list of Monument of National Importance. Its a must-visit for all those who love history and ancient culture.

 

4. Karla Caves

Just like the Bhaja Caves, the Karla Caves are also Buddhist caves carved into stone. They were made during the 2nd century BC to the 5th century BC. This area used to be an important trade route. The caves are so well-made that even today, they are in excellent condition.

Karla Caves are just a short drive or train ride away from Pimpri-Chinchwad. Many people from all over the country come to look at these phenomenal caves that showcase how talented our ancestors truly were. The caves are at a height, so be ready for doing some mild trekking.
